Vacation Day 1/8:
Defied my black thumb and found wee cucumbers growing in the garden. Painted mermaids and horses (it's totally legit for mermaids to ride horses, apparently they use their fin as leverage when galloping the Rainbow Glitter Sea according to my children). Made a tent fort and wore a cape. Spent a quiet moment on a windy hill remembering my mom, gone 26 years today. Had a great workout. Finn expressed his feelings about potty training by peeing in the stove in the play kitchen. And my new pretty pink Nanos finally came in the mail today!
Vacation Day 2/8:
Spent most of the day outside playing in the yard. Zoey inadvertently gave herself an enema by sitting on the garden hose, which was both hilarious and apparently highly uncomfortable. Learned how to make trumpets from Mr. Rogers (we're on a huge Mr. Rogers kick in the Lau house). Taught Finn about the glories of the esophagus. It's now his new favorite body part and he likes to run around randomly shouting "esophagus!" at people. Got through my first "Nancy" WOD, despite the fact that I'm a crappy runner and overhead squats are incredibly hard (but strangely satisfying). AND I found $4 in the refrigerator, so that was exciting.
Vacation Day 3/8:
Played a game of Don't Spill the Beans from the 80s (thank you neighbor Eugene) and got the opportunity to observe what happens when a toddler eats 30-year-old beans. "Jackie" was much kinder to me at CF tonight than the "Nancy" WOD yesterday. Found Zoey's beloved missing Wonder Woman cup... with the milk in it from 3 weeks ago. Played in the rain. Zoey got ecstatic over pirate tattoos:
Vacation Day 4/8:
Got schooled at Lincoln Logs by Finn (why are there a million little nubbin pieces and only like 4 long ones???) but redeemed myself with "rabid shark-bear game". Picked Sunita up from the airport. Zoey skeeved me out by pretending to be the creepiest zombie ever and miming eating my brains. I might have nightmares. Had an awesome night with my BFF Sunita laughing, playing with the kids, eating, shopping, and having a ridiculous conversation about Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. And there was some rock:
Vacation Day 5/8:
Drove to Ocean City MD for girls trip with Kristen & Sunita (but missing our Dawn!). Napped on the beach. Mocked Sunita's burned knees. Was warned in an excessively serious manner not to touch the plates at Mothers Cantina, then proceeded to touch all the plates. Hours of much-needed girl talk. And margaritas!
Vacation Day 6/8:
Hours on the beach. More hours in the pool, margarita in hand (hooray for the poolside tiki bar!). Endless entertainment, courtesy of the passengers and driver of the OCMD bus. Awesome dinner by the bay. More poolside drinks sitting around the fire pit. What a strenuous day.
Vacation Day 7/8:
Drove back to PA after a great girls weekend, was excited to see my little family again. (Even if Zoey ran right past me into Sunita's arms, she loves her Auntie Sunita). Had lunch with friends, it was fantastic to see Ian & Kelly after way too long. Braved all the steps and potential encounter with can-guy to catch up with Dawn. Powerpuff Girls. Downton Abbey. Sushi for dinner, the kids are finally getting more adept at chopsticks!
Vacation Day 8/8:
Busy last day of vacation, got up at 4am to take my BFF Dawn to her surgery, then several episodes of back and forth to the hospital and pharmacy (and Starbucks). Fun ED reunion in the PACU with some old co-workers. My kids displayed their usual high fashion, Zoey wore pajamas on top of her clothes and then one of my 80s sweaters on top of that. However she boycotted underwear. Finn wore only underwear, a Superman cape, a belt, and his Robin mask. I had a great workout, the last time I did 100 pull-ups in a WOD was "Murph" in May, but this time my hands didn't tear so that was exciting. I begrudgingly took Sunita to the airport to fly back to LA, these are the sad faces the kids made when she left, and also sum up my feeling about the end of vacation:
