Super Hero Birthday Party

Today we celebrated Finn's birthday with his favorite theme, super heroes!

Ever since our friends Ian & Kelly gave Finn a set of superhero costumes for Christmas, he has been obsessed with everything super hero:  Superman, Spiderman, Flash, Iron Man, Green Lantern, and especially Batman.  He wears super hero jammies at night, super hero underwear, super hero t-shirts, plays with super hero action figures and coloring books.  Rarely a day goes by that he isn't zipping around the house in a cape yelling "Pow!".  It's pretty awesome because Marty, Zoey, and I are also a fan.  So we were really excited to do a superhero themed party.

It was a bit more of a low key "Lau Party" with me recovering from my back injury and all of the other chaos going on in life right now, but still lots of fun.  Of course we all dressed up to join in the fun:

Finn loved his Batman cake.  It was the first time we had gotten a cake from Wegman's (I'm still mourning the loss of Dingeldein's Bakery), it was unexpectedly really awesome.  All soft and spongy with a layer of fudgy chocolately goodness in the middle.  Maybe it's the steroids I'm still taking for my back injury that cause me to want to eat gargantuan amounts of food like a bottomless pit, but I really wanted to sit down and house that cake like Garfield eats a pan of lasagna.

Finn also got some really awesome gifts, lots of superhero stuff for his "Bat Cave" which is perfect.  Plus a big medical kit (he loves playing with my stuff from work) and these really awesome light-up lego-type building sets from Sunita and Isaac that I can already tell he's going to be really into.  Oh and Marty and I got him the wooden rocking horse pictured above with Wyatt.  He's having a blast with everything, thanks guys!

Even though it was a small soiree, it was extra fantastic to have some of our nearest and dearest there.  As most of you know, one of my best friends Dawn has been battling cancer and just started chemo yesterday.  She is wearing a continuous chemo infusion pump for the next couple of days, so it meant a lot that she was able to come.  Our kids consider her their aunt and love her completely.  She is tackling this journey with some serious bravado, check out her blog here: http://sassycancerpants.blogspot.com/

It was also great to have Kristen come out, considering she just had a baby 12 days ago!  And of course she showed up looking fantastic in skinny heels, tackling newfound motherhood-of-two like a pro:

I'm fairly certain that when I was 12 days postpartum I was still wearing yoga pants covered in drool and hadn't found my hairbrush yet.   Kristen is so easygoing and relaxed, but still pulls off looking beautifully put-together and gorgeous, and makes it look effortless on top of it.  You would curse her a little bit if she wasn't so darn nice.
