Teacher:  Miss Mallorie Bew Batson

Cognitive Growth:
Color Recognition:  All of the time
Shape Recognition:  All of the time
Number Recognition:  Most of the time
Uppercase Letter Recognition:  Some of the time

Social and Emotional Growth:

Zoey is a sweet child whose personality brings happiness into our classroom.  She loves to play with her friends and use her creative imagination.  She creates elaborate games with her friends and uses everyday objects in unique ways.  Zoey likes to play with Dante, Violet, Julia, Evan, and Akash.  She is often found building castles in the block area or family in make believe.  Zoeys enjoys bringing in toys from home and is able to share those toys with her friends.  Zoey is learning to regulate and identify her emotions.  She often will become frustrated when trying to complete a task and has difficulty concentrating on her project.  We are working on staying focused and taking deep breaths while working.  Zoey likes to play with her friends but also values her independent play.  Zoey often shares stories from home at circle time and loves to tell silly jokes.

Cognitive and Physical Growth:

Zoey had a wonderful first half of the year.  She enjoyed learning about all the topics we explored.  She began the year by contributing her favorite fall activities to our fall book.  She helped pollinate our playground and was able to move her pollen 19 steps.  She was able to camouflage her bear in a zebra pattern.  She created her own hibernation hut that featured a fridge for food and a stuffed animal to snuggle.  She chose the Native American name "Mika" which means raccoon.  During our French unit, she became an impressionist painter and created the painting "Butterfly".  Zoey loved trying the variety of French pastries and is an excellent cook in our kitchen.  She chose the French name "Antoinette" and enjoyed learning basic French phrases.

Zoey continues to work on improving her gross and fine motor skills.  She is able to play age-appropriate games on the playground and loves to run with her friends.  She wings and uses the monkey bars.  Zoey is able to correctly write her numbers and counts using one to one correspondences.  She is able to recognize her own name in print and some of her friends.  She is able to write in uppercase letters and has worked very hard on her name.  Zoey can sometimes become frustrated when writing her letters because she wants each letter to be perfect.  We are working on just doing our best and continuing to improve them each time we write them.  I look forward to the progress she will make in the second half of the year.
