Zoey's 1st Dental Check-Up

It wasn't really her first visit, because she saw the dentist one time around 20 months old after chipping her front tooth.  However, this was her first real appointment and regularly scheduled check-up.

I LOVE our dentist, Dr. Fontaine.  He's a fantastic dentist, a really cool person, and has great taste in music.  His office is cozy and his whole staff rocks.  My hygienist in particular is super awesome.  So I was stoked to get Zoey on the path to good dental health.  They welcomed her with open arms:

She thought the waiting room was really fun and had a great time reading books and doing puzzles:

However, that's the last photo that I got because once we went back to the exam room she wanted to sit on my lap in the dental chair and wouldn't let me out of arms reach.  She let the hygienist put the bib on her, but that's pretty much as far as the exam/cleaning went.  She didn't freak out or anything, she just got shy and burrowed into my lap and kept her mouth tightly closed (a first!).

We didn't push her, it's better to establish that the dentist office is a fun healthy place and allow her to feel more comfortable over time, rather than force her to pry her mouth open and give her scary associations with the dentist.  So we just watched a video of a monkey brushing and flossing his teeth (seriously, how cool is my dentist that he has random monkey tooth-brushing videos?) and she got a free toothbrush.

Over the next 6 months before her next appointment I'll talk up the dentist to her and maybe take her with me to my next cleaning.  I think we'll make better progress next time, she might even open her mouth!
