Skateboarding 101

A highlight from Christmas this year was definitely the kids receiving their first skateboards.   As just about everyone knows, that's all Zoey has talked about now for MONTHS.   Specifically a pink skateboard with yellow lightening bolts.  Which we totally one-upped by adding in a rainbow unicorn.  I have to say, the finished product that we created is fan-freaking-tastic.

Finished board, before Marty put the trucks on:

I wish I'd gotten pictures of their first reactions with their skateboards on Christmas day but the kids were awake and down the stairs way faster than I could function or work a camera without coffee on board.  (We were up until 4am wrapping gifts, kids woke up by 6am).   I also wish I'd gotten a picture of Marty "teaching" the kids how to ride in the house, which resulted in a ridiculous collision that almost took out the Christmas tree.

So they were ordered outside and here they are getting ready to go out for a test run:

It starts with foot placement:

It's all in the hips, baby!

About 2 seconds before calamity, when the skateboard kept going forward and Finn learned how to do his first full split (and the discomfort that ensues).

Rollin':

Overall a success.   Which I measure as no one having to go to the ER.  Victory!
