Goodbye to another year of preschool

The kids had a great year of preschool, I can't believe it's over and summer is here.

Finn

Finn loved his first year of preschool!  He made a lot of friends, mostly preferring to hang out with the girls - Sophie, Jordyn, and Jenna.   He was always smiling and laughing and he thrived in the playful classroom atmosphere.   He learned to write his name, sing the alphabet, and count to 10.  One of his favorite things to do in the classroom was build with legos and other types of blocks.  He has a gift for spatial relations and he loves to create in new and interesting ways.  They also planted in the garden, fed the birds and fish each day, sang, danced, and learned so much.  They learned about nature, animals, fire safety, taking care of their teeth, different cultures, the ocean, and all kinds of other things in our world.  They went on a field trip to Paulus Farm, they went ice skating, they had an "underwear parade" all through the school to celebrate potty training by wearing new underwear on their heads.

We are so glad that Finn had the opportunity to learn and grow with Miss Holly in her whimsical creative classroom.

Zoey

Preschool has officially come to an end for Zoey and she will be off to Kindergarten after the summer.  It seems like just yesterday that we got her first backpack and she walked into Miss Holly's 2/3 preschool morning class.   What a difference a couple years makes!

This is her end-of-year progress report from Miss Mallorie:

"Zoey finished out the year strong and took an active interest in all the topics we studied.  She began the second half of the year by making a New Year's resolution to learn more about unicorns.  We found several books in the classroom that featured unicorns and we read them to learn more.  Zoey was very involved in our olympic unit and loved making our classroom bobsleds.  She helped illustrate ping pong for our olympic sport book.  During our health unit, she was a great nurse in our doctor's office and even chose that profession as what she wants to be when she grows up.  She also created a sore throat germ after reading "Those Downright Disgusting but Invisible Germs".  On Earth Day, she helped brainstorm ways to help take care of our earth and promised to turn off the water when not using it.  She chose the bengal tiger for her rainforest report and enjoyed learning many interesting facts.  She finished out the year by creating a bright and realistic painting "Flower Height".
Zoey has worked hard on regulating her emotions and has become able to identify how she is feeling.  She can now communicate those feelings to her teacher and we can figure out a way to handle them.  She has become an independent problem solver with her friends and uses the 5 minute timer to help find solutions.  She can cooperative with her friends and will find ways to incorporate everyone's ideas.  She plays with a variety of friends in our classroom and invites others to join her games.  Zoey was an integral part of our classroom this year and brought so much joy to the room.
Zoey continues to work on improving her gross and fine motor skills.  She is able to write sentences using upper and lowercase letters.  She sometimes has a hard time keeping track of where she is in her sentence.  Her drawings are becoming more intricate and detailed as her hand strength continues to grow.  She can compare quantities and use the correct terminology when identifying which is more or less.  Zoey can create simple and complex patterns.  She can sort based on shape, color, and size.  She is able to run, skip, hop, and jump.  She can follow simple game rules.  She is able to build large structures that feature unique designs.  She loves to help bake in the classroom and is able to measure correct amounts.  Over the summer, I would continue to work on drawing and fostering her love of reading.  I look forward to the progress will continue to make in Kindergarten."
