Third Time is a Charm?

Since Finn was sick the day of his birthday party, we decided to order another mini-cake from Dingeldein's and do another photo session for his "cake smash".  We thought this would work out really well because our friend Carrie is getting back into photography and she needed a model to photograph to add to her portfolio.  So she came over today with all kinds of fun "birthday" props:  a big box wrapped like a birthday gift for Finn to sit inside, a giant plastic "Happy Birthday" sheet for him to sit on or wrap around him, letters spelling out "Happy 1st Birthday Finn" for the floor, and some other stuff.   I was excited to get some good birthday photos of him and also for her to have good shots for her website.  Finn is a great model because he smiles all the time and LOVES to smile for the camera.  Not to mention although I know I'm biased, he's a darn cute kid.

So what happens when she gets everything set up and I bring out the cake?  He cries. And rubs his eyes.  And screams.  And cries.  And refuses to sit or even look at the cake.  Out of the blue he was totally exhausted and demanded a nap.  He was literally reaching for the crib when I took him to his room, he rolled over and went right to sleep.  What a stinker!  I swear, he's the happiest kid ever, except apparently when I want to have birthday photos taken of him with a really nice camera.  Needless to say the shoot did not go as planned.  Although amazingly, Zoey was completely cooperative with having her picture taken.  She sat still and let Carrie position her in different ways and was totally calm.  Normally she flees when the camera comes out.  In what world is Zoey the calm smiling one and Finn is the fussy dramatic one??  Anyway, here's a couple pics that Carrie took, they came out really nice!

I ended up letting Finn have his cake when he woke up from his nap.  He wasn't a huge fan of the icing, but he looooved the cake.  There were no cool props and I had to use my crappy Canon, but I took a bunch of pictures, so his cake-eating is finally captured.  (By the way, I REALLY want a nice camera, it's burning a hole on my wish list).

We took a couple of videos of the messy fun as well:
