Fall Update

The last few weeks have flown by!  Here's what we've been up to in the Lau House...

Paulus Farm

I took both the kids to one of their favorite places, Paulus Farm, to take advantage of the fun fall activities.

Apple Festival

We went to the annual Apple Festival in Adams County and ate apple pizza, apple pie, and drank apple cider.  It was an unseasonably hot day so we sat in the grass, drank slushies, and listened to music for awhile.  Finn went on his very first horseback ride.  Then because we're awesome at not paying attention we took the wrong bus and ended up in the wrong parking field, had to go back to the festival and take a new bus.

Illness

The kids and I all ended up pretty sick for a couple of weeks.  I was off work for a week with pneumonia (and STILL am fighting a cough and shortness of breath).  I coughed so much that I actually tore my rib cartilage and cracked a rib.  I feel like a 90-year old lady.  Zoey had fever and cough for a week, missed school picture day, and missed her class field trip to Paulus Farm.  Finn ended up with a nasty case of croup (again), missed school picture day, and missed his class Halloween party.  Somehow Marty made it through unscathed.

Halloween

Since I was sick, Marty stepped up to the plate and did a fantastic job sewing Zoey's Halloween costume.  At first she just wanted to be a seahorse, which was already a little bit of challenge because I don't know if you've noticed but seahorse costumes aren't exactly lining up the store shelves.  But then she decided she was deadset on being a "flying rainbow seahorse".  Yeah you can't find that one at the Halloween store.  But I love her creative little mind! So we hit the craft stores and made it happen.  She was well enough to go to her class Halloween party and had a lot of fun dressing up with the other kids.  Finn changed his mind on his costume a few times.  We initially bought him a dinosaur costume because he wanted to be a lizard.  Then he wanted to be a witch.  Until he saw a ninja sword in the Halloween store and fell in love with it.  So his final decision was "cowboy ninja", which was basically a ninja costume with his beloved cowboy boots.  We took the kids to the trick-or-treat event at the mall, which was pretty fun going from store to store to trick-or-treat.  Even though every store gave out Tootsie Rolls.  I think there are currently 512 Tootsie Rolls in our house.  Then on Halloween night Kristen came over with Wyatt and the kids all went trick-or-treating together, with Pop Pop and Pap Pap in tow.

Finn's Field Trip

Finn had his first class field trip, they went to Paulus Farm.  It was cute watching the kids feed the animals, go on a hayride, and play together.  They also trekked out to the garden to pick Swiss Chard and learn about sunflowers and different kinds of corn.
