A Weekend of Dance

We had a surprisingly excellent time on our dance weekend get-away.  I say "surprisingly" not because I didn't think the dancing would be fun, but because I thought I would spend most of the four days either missing the kids, worrying that Zoey would somehow learn to construct an explosive rocket ship in our absence, or being concerned that Finn just wouldn't sleep at all.  I'm really happy (and quite jealous) to report that Finn slept better at Marty's parent's house than he's ever slept in his own crib.  The worst night he only woke up 3-4 times (which is usually a best night for us) and his best night he only woke up once (utterly unheard of).  I'm not quite sure how they did it, I suspect large quantities of sedatives.  Or perhaps voodoo.  Either way, I approve.

So it was easier to relax and just have fun once I realized the kids were under control.  I still missed them, particularly since a few other couples brought their kids of similar age.  But it was selfishly nice to have a few days where we got to put ourselves first.  We had a great time together and we both became completely re-inspired with dance.

The Monday Night Dance

Prior to this, it had been two years since we were at a dance event.  Since that time, we've done a lot of dancing but only with each other and typically in our kitchen during the famous Lau Dinner Dance Jams.  So initially I was somewhat nervous, wondering what had changed in the dance world and how things would be.  The level of dance was a bit higher but overall things are basically the same.  We really didn't feel that we had actually missed all that much.  It was nice to be reminded too of what we both love about dance - simple movements with intricate layers of rhythm and contrast done musically really well.  I'm excited and inspired to get back to dancing.  And although our kids are exposed to music and dancing on a daily basis in our house, I want them to be exposed to the greater world of dance as well.  It's just good for the soul.

Yay! I'm so glad you had such a good time! And even happier to hear that the kids did well. What is it about babies sleeping so well when NOT in your care??!! Not fair! :)
