One of my best friends, Kristen, had her baby boy early Wednesday morning. His name is Wyatt and he's completely adorable:
Having kids has led Marty and I on the best journey we've ever known so we're super happy for Kristen and Glen to experience it. They started off proper by getting peed on right off the bat. Atta boy, Wyatt, way to christen them into parenting!
Being around a newborn again has given me so many flashbacks into the early days for Marty and I, especially reflecting on how we were as brand new parents. I distinctly remember feeling like I could only handle doing one thing at a time, like if I was feeding Zoey that's all I could do at first. I wouldn't pick up the phone or do much of anything else while I was feeding her. Then by the time Finn came along, I would have him attached to me feeding in one arm, I'd be making dinner with the other arm, wearing Zoey on my back in the baby carrier AND talking on the phone. It's amazing how well you learn to multitask and how much that becomes the norm. In the very early days the norm would be the calm & quiet that we knew pre-kids with any chaos being an addition that we had to figure out how to cope with. Now the norm is a constant flurry of activity, noise, and shenanigans. We've settled into it as the awesome hum of every day life and any sort of quiet and calm just feels WEIRD.
Life has changed dramatically for us over the past 2 1/2 years and I love it so much. In a way we're still the same old us, we still do the things we love to do (albeit much less) and we've retained the core that is "us". But our biggest love has morphed into watching our kids grow, showing them the world around them, and teaching them how to be amazing little people. It's spectacular watching them smile and acknowledge you for the first time when they're babies, seeing how their eyes light up as they discover something new, how they throw their self in your arms and say "I love you soooo much Mommy", seeing how their unique individual personality emerges and figuring out how to best utilize that as you teach them. It's such a cool journey and it's still only just begun for us, I can't wait to see what's next.
